THE GLOBAL ENERGY OPPORTUNITY
A Continuous Energy Source the World Has Barely Touched
Ocean currents flow continuously, driven by gravitational forces between the Sun, Moon, and Earth that have operated for millions of years. Unlike wind or solar, they run day and night, every season, without interruption.
Ocean water is 800× denser than air. A 3–5 knot current carries the energy equivalent of wind at several hundred miles per hour. The resource is enormous, and almost entirely untapped.

Global Ocean Current Systems
Major currents including the Gulf Stream, Kuroshio Current, and East Australian Current flow close to high-density population centres, reducing the cost of grid connection compared to remote wind or solar installations.
Baseload Renewable Energy
Deep ocean currents provide a stable, predictable flow that can support baseload power generation, the critical gap that wind and solar alone cannot reliably fill without expensive storage infrastructure.
Role in Future Energy Systems
As governments accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels, stable renewable baseload sources will become increasingly valuable. Ocean current energy represents one of the largest undeveloped opportunities in the global energy transition.
Environmental Co-Benefits
DOCGEN POWER, deep ocean current generation platforms create no noise, no visual impact on landscapes, and no disruption to river ecosystems. Submerged vessel hulls become productive artificial reefs, supporting marine biodiversity rather than harming it.
THE TECHNOLOGY
How the DOCGEN POWER Ocean Current Generator works
DOCGEN POWER, is a deep ocean current generator that captures the kinetic energy of deep ocean currents using underwater turbine systems mounted on repurposed decommissioned vessels, converting that energy into grid-ready electricity. Unlike tidal systems, these generators operate in deeper waters where currents flow continuously.
Ocean Currents Drive Turbine Blades
Multi-vaned rotors capture kinetic energy from slow-moving deep ocean flows. Whale-excluder rings protect all marine life. Ultra-high torque is transferred to onboard hydraulic pumps.
Mechanical Energy Powers Generation
Hydraulic motors drive sealed generators housed in pressurised capsules, purpose-built for long-term operation in saltwater at depth. No moving parts are exposed to the open ocean.
Electricity Delivered to Shore
AC or DC power is transmitted via submarine cable directly to a shore-based substation and into the consumer grid. No long-distance transmission networks required.
Built From Repurposed Vessels
Ultra Large Crude Carriers (ULCCs) nearing end of commercial life are stripped, cleaned, and converted into submersible platforms, halving build costs and saving ships from destructive breaking yards.
Hydraulic Power Transmission
Turbines drive hydraulic pumps proven in harsh marine environments. The sealed generator capsule is rated for extended subsea operation with no open-ocean exposure.
ROV Maintenance — No Dry Dock Required
An integrated ROV manifold allows controlled raising and lowering for servicing. Maintenance is straightforward and minimally disruptive to power output.
Scalable Array Design
Multiple platforms connected in series provide continuous baseload output regardless of natural current variation, inherently scalable from single units to large generating arrays.

The Next Frontier in Renewable Energy
DEVELOPMENT PROCESS
Where the Project Stands Today
DOCGEN POWER has moved well beyond initial concept. The patent portfolio is established, a physical prototype has been built, and scientific validation data has been independently sourced.
Core Technology Concept Developed
The full system concept, from turbine design to power transmission, has been engineered and documented over more than two decades of development.
International Patent Portfolio Established
Patents granted in Australia, USA, and Japan. An active PCT (IPTC) application covers the pathway to further national grants across Europe, Singapore, South Korea, and Indonesia.
Small-Scale Prototype Constructed
The "Green Frog" prototype - featuring an 80cm blade diameter, has been built and subjected to preliminary testing, providing physical proof of concept.
Computer Modelling Developed
A computational simulation model demonstrates the operational and energy generation mathematics, validating the theoretical performance of the system.
Ocean Current Data Validated
10-year East Australian Current flow velocity data obtained via CSIRO. Supporting flow rate data sourced from NOAA, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, and Japan's NMRI, providing independent, internationally recognised scientific validation of the energy resource.
The Green Frog — Proof of Operational Functionality
Built and tested as the first physical demonstration of the DOCGEN POWER concept. The prototype validates the core turbine, hydraulic, and generation system in a controllable environment ahead of full-scale engineering.

THE INVENTOR
Russell Earl
Founder & Inventor · 4Rivers Power Engineering · Brisbane, Australia
Founded in Cairns, Queensland — Cairns is situated between the Great Barrier Reef and the world’s oldest rainforest – 4Rivers Power Engineering was built on a single conviction: that a continuous, pollution-free energy source of sufficient scale must exist in nature.
That search, governed by strict engineering and environmental criteria, led to deep ocean currents, a resource that has driven our planet’s climate for millions of years and flows continuously, regardless of time of day or season. The result is DOCGEN POWER.
- 25+ years developing the DOCGEN POWER concept from first principles
- Patents granted in Australia, USA and Japan, international PCT application active
- Physical prototype constructed and preliminary testing completed
- Scientific data partnerships with CSIRO and international oceanographic institutions
- Relocated to Brisbane in 2010 to advance the technology toward commercial scale
FUTURE VISION
The Future of Marine Current Power Generation
DOCGEN POWER aims to enable large-scale renewable energy generation from stable ocean current flows. Deployment targets regions where strong currents run close to major coastal cities, reducing grid connection costs and maximising energy delivery.
Multiple platforms in series deliver uninterrupted baseload power regardless of natural current variation. The design scales from a single unit to a large generating array.
